Sundays

The City Church family all meet together on Sunday mornings at Brickfields at 9:30 and 11:30am. This is a focal point of church life and acts as a launch pad for what happens in the rest of the week, both for individuals and for us collectively as a church.

What can I expect?

Worship

We start with a time that centres on ‘who God is’ and ‘what he has done’ that allows us to express our passion and devotion to God. To achieve this goal we sing songs based on these themes, we talk to God in prayer and passages of the bible are read out. We give space for church members to share things that they feel God wants to say to us, which is something churches in the Bible did. The musical style is lively and contemporary, often featuring drums and electric guitar alongside classical instruments like the harp!

Offering

Giving financially is another element of our corporate worship - it is an act of gratitude and faith. Giving acknowledges that all we possess is ultimately given to us by God, it expresses the fact that God is in charge of every area of our lives (which therefore includes our finances) and allows us to demonstrate our commitment to the work of the church in a practical and concrete way.

Family News

Many and varied things can happen in this section of the meeting! We seek to welcome those who are new to the church. We also take the chance to update people with important events that are happening in the life of the church. We try hard to avoid lengthy ‘announcements’!

Bible–based Talk

We love the Bible because it is God’s book and through every bit of it, he has things to say us. We take time to understand the Bible’s message and how this can teach us about God, about ourselves, about the world that we live in and about what authentic Christian lifestyle looks like in practice.

Prayer

At the end of the talk there will always be trained people available who can talk and pray with you if this would be helpful.

Refreshments

We have a relaxed end to our mornings. Coffee, tea, squash and biscuits are available and people chat and get to know each other better. People are welcome to come and go as they please at this point.

Children

There is a parent and baby room and an additional room for children under three that people are welcome to use at any point in the service. Supervised groups for children up to 10 years old run each Sunday. Groups for youth (11-18 years) run on certain weeks. For more information check out the 0 – 18s section of the site.

Special Features

On a regular basis we baptise people. We baptise people because Jesus taught that on becoming a Christian this is the way to express our trust in him and our desire to live life as he teaches us to do. We take time to hear the stories of those being baptised and this makes for a very interesting and stimulating time.

On certain Sundays the talk will explicitly answer the questions “What is a Christian?” and “Why is this relevant?”. On these occasions the meeting is designed to be particularly accessible for those who do not come to church often. We seek to include something aimed at those who are exploring the claims of Christianity whenever we meet on a Sunday.
